Our chemical dependency programs.
I think I may have a chemical dependency problem. Do you have a program that can help?
Sharp Grossmont's dual recovery program is designed to help adults navigate the unique challenge of overcoming mental health conditions along with alcohol and drug dependency. This program uses a three-pronged approach consisting of medication management, a positive and compassionate group therapy process, and skill development for symptom management and relapse prevention. It includes both individual and group therapy sessions, and we will tailor a customized treatment plan for your specific needs.
Is the dual recovery program based on the 12-step program of Alcoholics Anonymous and other 12-step programs?
Our dual recovery program is a science-based program that focuses on strategies and coping skills for abstaining from addictive substances or behaviors. We use medication-assisted treatment, motivational interviewing, mindfulness-based cognitive behavioral therapy, and a harm-reduction approach to treatment. We support and encourage patients to utilize community-based self-help programs such as SMART Recovery or 12-step programs when they are a helpful part of the person's overall recovery plan.

My loved one is bipolar but is refusing to get help. What can I do?
We understand your concern and are here to help. Our cognitive behavioral therapy program is designed to treat bipolar adults suffering from symptoms such as depression and anxiety. Our program offers a supportive therapeutic setting for patients experiencing significant disruption in daily living and takes a group-oriented, cognitive behavioral approach to care. Our outpatient programs are voluntary, but one of our intake specialists will work with you and your loved one to assess the need for either outpatient or inpatient psychiatric care. To speak with an intake specialist, please call 619-740-5811.
My loved one has schizophrenia and is not taking the prescribed medication. Do you have any programs that can help?
Sharp Grossmont specializes in the treatment of schizophrenia and we offer both inpatient and outpatient programs depending on the level of treatment needed. Each program starts with a complete psychiatric assessment, followed by prescribing appropriate medications and scheduling group psychotherapy. Our programs are designed to help our patients recover from their unique challenges so they can get back to living balanced, productive lives.
What if my family member has a mental illness and I need support?
At Sharp Grossmont, we understand that facing mental illness in a loved one can be confusing and challenging. Our family and friends support group provides support, education and resources to help people with loved ones enrolled in our inpatient and outpatient programs.
For those whose loved ones are not enrolled in inpatient or outpatient treatment at Sharp Grossmont, National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) offers resources and support groups.
Our older adult programs.
I can no longer manage my elderly parent. Do you have any programs that deal with the special behavioral needs of the elderly?
Firstly, it's important to speak with your parent's primary care physician about the concerns you are struggling with. Once the level of behavioral issues has been determined, your parent's doctor can refer you to Sharp Grossmont's older adult treatment program. Our specialized program offers a full range of senior behavioral health services from inpatient partial hospitalization to intensive outpatient services. All services are provided under a psychiatrist's direction who works in collaboration with your parent's primary care physician.
